Weber County Civil Docket Searches
The statewide tool is Utah Courts Xchange. It covers Weber County District and Justice Court cases kept in CORIS. Pick District Court for general civil, domestic, probate, guardianship, and adoption files. It also covers Justice Court appeals. Pick Justice Court for small claims. Narrow by Weber County or the exact court location. That keeps you from wading through unrelated results statewide. A full party name or a case number gives the cleanest Weber County civil docket search. Wildcards work for names, and company names belong in the Last Name/Company field. Results cap at 500. One more caution: Utah case numbers are not unique statewide. Check the county, location, case type, filing date, and party role before trusting any single match.
- Choose District Court or Justice Court based on the civil case type.
- Set the scope to Weber County or the known court location.
- Enter the civil case number, party name, or company name, using an asterisk wildcard when useful.
- Compare court, filing date, case type, case number, and party code in the result list.
- Open Case History/Documents to review Proceedings, settings, judgment entries, and available images.
Skip the paid subscription if you can. A free public Xchange terminal sits in most District courthouses and at the Utah State Law Library. The clerk will also take a record request that is specific enough to act on.
Weber County Civil Docket Search Fields
Xchange is a statewide system, so there is no county-branded screen. Its filters build the Weber County civil docket search for you. Jurisdiction splits District from Justice Court cases. Search Scope limits the geography. Case Type narrows the category, and Search Type can pull all court cases or just judgments entered.
| Field | Use in a Weber civil search | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Case Number | Direct route to a known matter | Not unique statewide; retain location |
| Last Name / Company | Party surname or entity name | Use wildcard spelling where needed |
| First Name | Narrows an individual party | Confirm the party role and filing date |
| Case Type | Limits results to the relevant civil category | Uses Utah's case-type codes |
| Search Scope | Statewide, county, or particular court | Select Weber County or the precise venue |
The results table shows County, Court Location, Case Type, Case Number, Filing Date, party names, Party Code, and Case History/Documents. A document Purchase link is separate from the free public summary. Going online costs fees; terminal inspection is free where offered.
Civil Dockets: What They Show
A Weber County civil docket bundles the case header, the parties and lawyers, dated Proceedings, settings, documents, account details, and judgment information. It works as an index and an event history. Not every filed page appears in it. The public view may show that an order or motion exists even when the image itself is restricted or unavailable.
| Case identity | Court, location, civil case number, filing date, case type, caption, and assigned judge or commissioner. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, or specialized roles such as guardian, conservator, heir, or garnishee. |
| Filings | Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, minute entries, service events, and available document links. |
| Settings | Hearings, conferences, trials, and related calendar events entered in the case history. |
| Outcome | Judgment, order, decree, dismissal, satisfaction, abstract, garnishment, or later reopening. |
Utah labels the overview a case summary and the dated events Proceedings. The first two digits of a case number mark the filing year. Weber County publishes no fixed civil prefix, so never guess jurisdiction from a code.
Weber County Civil Docket Party Roles
Captions shift with the claim. Debt and tort cases usually pair plaintiff with defendant. Domestic or probate matters lean on petitioner and respondent. Probate and protective cases can carry stranger roles, and the Utah Xchange party-code reference sorts them out.
- PLA / DEF
- Plaintiff starts a civil claim; defendant is the person or entity sued.
- PET / RES
- Petitioner asks the court to act; respondent answers that request.
- INT
- Intervenor is allowed to join an existing case.
- GAL
- Guardian ad litem represents a protected person's interests.
- CON
- Conservator is responsible for property matters involving a protected person.
- DEC / HER
- Decedent and heir identify common probate roles.
Matching names plague docket searches. The party role cuts down false hits. Follow the linked attorney under the represented party, then weigh the case type, filing date, and Proceedings together. Restricted domestic details can stay hidden even where a public case history is visible.
What Cases Fill the Civil Docket
The Ogden District Court holds broad civil jurisdiction. Its Weber County civil dockets span contract, debt collection, tort, property, eviction, domestic relations, probate, guardianship, adoption, name change, and tax-lien matters. Justice Courts handle small claims, and District Court reviews their appeals.
- Contract and debt disputes, including collection claims and judgments
- Automobile and other tort claims involving alleged civil harm
- Property rights, eviction, tax lien, and judgment enforcement matters
- Divorce, parentage, child support, and other domestic proceedings
- Probate, guardianship, conservatorship, adoption, and name changes
- Small claims filed in the proper local Justice Court
Case-type codes sharpen a docket search. TA stands for Automobile Tort, AJ for Abstract of Judgment, and TL for Tax Lien. When you know the real category, search by it rather than dumping every money dispute into one generic civil docket.
Weber County Civil Small-Claims Dockets
Small claims are the big exception to starting at District Court. They live in Justice Court. Weber County has several city and county Justice Courts. Each clerk keeps a separate docket. A small-claims case filed in Ogden Justice Court never moves to the Grant Avenue District Court just because both sit in Ogden. Venue follows the court, not the neighborhood.
| Question | District Court civil docket | Justice Court small claim |
|---|---|---|
| Typical matter | General civil, domestic, probate, property | Small claim within Justice Court authority |
| Public search | Xchange with District Court scope | Xchange with Justice Court scope and local location |
| Record custodian | Ogden District Court clerk | Clerk of the local Justice Court |
| Later review | Utah appellate process | District Court appeal route |
The Weber County local court list maps the scattered Justice Court locations. Check the claim papers for venue before you pay for a search. The court name, not where a party lives, controls which office holds the record.
Hearings on the Civil Docket
Civil case histories list motion hearings, scheduling conferences, reviews, trials, and other settings. A notice of setting just marks a planned hearing. A continuance or reset moves it. Neither one means the claim was dismissed. A single scheduling order can set several deadlines before the next courtroom event.
To verify a live setting, use the Utah Court Calendars. Search by case number, party name, judge, attorney, date, or location. Full Court Calendars add filters for location and judge. They may also list attorneys and charges. When a court adds one, a Webex Event link appears on the calendar. No link means you should call the judge's team or the court location. Updates run weekdays at 5:30 a.m., but urgent changes still justify a clerk call. The Weber County court schedule offers more help with reading a setting and responding to a moved date. A blank result can simply mean the query was early or too broad. It can also mean you aimed at the wrong Weber court location.
Weber County Civil Filing Uses eFile
Civil filings in Weber County District Court go through Utah Courts eFiling. That system is separate from public Xchange. eFile and CORIS move a new submission into the court workflow first. Only after staff process the entry does it show up in the public case-information layer. So a filing can sit inside the system for a while before a Weber County civil docket search turns it up.
Xchange can display public District Court electronic documents filed since July 1, 2010, when an image exists and the record is public. Older papers may need a clerk request. Justice Courts moved onto CORIS at different times, so early small-claims histories online can look thinner than recent District Court civil cases.
Do not confuse access routes: eFile submits papers, Xchange searches public case histories, and MyCourtCase gives eligible parties free access to their own matters.
Who Can See Civil Dockets
Much of the Weber County civil docket is public. Utah rules, though, draw a line between the case history and the documents beneath it. Histories stay open unless something else restricts them. So do judgments, orders, decrees, letters of appointment, and records of public hearings. Many underlying domestic documents remain private. Adoption and civil-commitment files never appear as ordinary public results. Medical data gets withheld or redacted too. So do financial account numbers, Social Security numbers, and protected addresses.
Guardianship, conservatorship, parentage, child-support, and protective-order cases mix public and private layers. A missing image does not mean the whole case is sealed. And a public caption does not mean every filing is viewable. The clerk and the court's classification decide what each person sees.
Key Utah access rules:
UCJA Rule 4-202.02 presumes court records public unless a rule, law, or order assigns a restricted classification.
UCJA Rule 4-202.04 sends written requests to the clerk and requires identification and entitlement for non-public records.
Utah Code 63G-2-301 recognizes public judicial records subject to court rules, orders, and private classifications.
When a public file is missing, a certified copy is needed, or restricted access is authorized, the route is a written Request for a Record. Utah Courts says the court usually answers within 10 business days. After a denial, the requester is told what review options exist.
